Outdoor education activities for schools

Beyond the Classroom offer a wide range of outdoor education activities for schools in South Australia, which can be operated as a stand alone excursion or incursion, part of a camp, or as a stand alone journey.

With an extensive fleet of equipment, mountain bikes, surf boards, kayaks, rock climbing equipment, buses, problem solving and team work challenges, boats, carts and more, Beyond the Classroom can tailor a program to suit your needs and budget.

Schools surf Lessons at Middleton and Moana photo

Surfing Lessons

Learn to Surf Lessons and Middleton, Moana, Robe, Kangaroo Island, Yorke Peninsula and beyond. All inclusive and can be stand alone, SACE programs or part of a full surf camp.

Kayaking and Canoeing for School Groups photo

Kayak/Canoeing

Kayak Skills and Canoe programs throughout South Australia. Sessions include kayaks, paddles and PFD's with expert instruction. Can be 2 hour sessions or multi day journeys

Mountain Biking

Mountain Bike programs for schools are available throughout South Australia. Programs can be for 2 hours to multi day camps as required.

Team Challenges

Team Challenges are perfect as an icebreaker for groups of up to 200 students. Activities include challenges based on teamwork, leadership and more.

Raft Building

Raft building is a great activity for school students. It promotes teamwork, creative thinking and problem solving skills and it is a lot of fun!

Snorkelling

Snorkel programs are available throughout South Australia. Popular locations include Port Noarlunga, Second Valley, Victor Harbor and more.

Beach Olympics

Beach olympics is a great icebreaker and perfect for any size group. Challenges are based on teamwork and communication and really highlight leadership skills.

Bushwalking

Bushwalking programs can be for a half day up to multi day camp anywhere in South Australia. Can include all equipment or just facilitators depending on requirements.

Boat Tour

Board our boat the "Fossil Finder" at Camp Illawonga for a cave tour accessed only by water. This exciting boat tour is operated exclusively by Beyond the Classroom from Swan Reach on the Murray River.

Rock Climbing

Beyond the Classroom offers rock climbing and abseiling programs for school students and caters for varying levels of competence, from beginners to more experienced climbers.

Trangia Cooking

Students always come away with a better understanding of how to safely enjoy the outdoors while cooking themselves some damper

Team Initiatives

These initiatives are designed to promote leadership, independence, Initiative, and Teamwork.

Amazing Race

Race around Adelaide in a great race that helps students learn about Adelaide, how to get around and the city sights. Teams must complete challenges at checkpoints along the way and develop leadership skills.

Mallee Explorer

Explore Camp Illawonga on Beyond the Classroom's Mallee Explorer, a custom built cart that visits a private sculpture trail.

Catering

Catering packages are available on all camps. Beyond the Classroom offer wholesome, healthy meals and cater to dietary requirements. Remote catering is also available.

Cultural Experience

Beyond the Classroom work with a range of local first nations providers to offer authentic cultural experiences in the country. Images are from our cultural leader partner on the Fleurieu Peninsula Mark Koolmatrie.

Tree Planting

A tree planting or revegetation activity is conducted with thoughtful consideration of what plants would maintain sustainability and also benefit the overall area.

Camping

Beyond the Classroom offers an enriching camping experience for school students by providing an opportunity to connect with nature, fostering a sense of appreciation and environmental awareness.

Abseiling

Abseiling 'Off the Bluff' is available for school groups on camp in or near Victor Harbor. All equipment is provided along with expert instruction.

Bugs Life

The Beyond the Classroom team love bugs, animals, and wildlife! This ecology activity is a great interactive program that can be run in any natural environment.

Billy Carts

Beyond the Classroom operate a great fun billy cart build and race activity. The billy carts are partially built and students complete the process in a 2-hour activity.

Synergy Challenge

Students are encouraged to engage with one another and work collaboratively to complete the tasks.

Aqueduct

An aqueduct is an excellent event for all group sizes. The challenge commences when teams are given 20 metres of pipe and they must construct an aqueduct (water pipeline) that includes turns and obstacles.

Zodiac boats

Zodiac-style boats are versatile and inflatable boats that allow students to navigate various water environments, promoting teamwork, communication, and leadership skills.

Bus Transfers

Beyond The Classroom have a fleet of mid sized buses, to get your school group to and from your destinations.

Pedal Carts

Enjoy a pedal cart adventure at Camp Illawonga! Students will love this camp highlight on their Murray River Adventure.

Orienteering

Beyond the Classroom's orienteering courses are just like joining a friendly treasure hunt or foot race. With specialist-built courses, orienteering sessions are available for beginners to advanced throughout South Australia.

Damper Cooking

Students love our damper cooking activity, making and cooking damper on a stick on the open fire. It is a hit with all ages.

Caving

Explore the Punyelroo Cave, near Swan Reach, only accessible by kayak of via our "Fossil Finder" boat. A camp highlight when visiting Camp Illawonga.

Blacksmith Show

Blacksmithing Show is available at Narnu Farm on our Pioneer themed camps. Students will learn about skills of yesteryear, and how the original pioneers used to make things such as a horseshoe.

Chicken Hatchery

Chicken hatchery is a favourite on camp at Narnu Farm, Hindmarsh Island, Students love getting up close and personal with the baby chickens and other farm animals.

Animal Feeding

Animal Feeding at Narnu Farm is a camp highlight, and one of the most interactive activities on camp. Students always love getting up close and personal with the animals at Narnu Farm.

Archery

Archery is a fun activity enabling students to develop new skills and improve their hand / eye coordination. Archery is available at all Beyond the Classroom operated camp sites.

Aquatic Time

Aquatic time is a must do when staying at Camp Illawonga in the warmer months. Camp Illawonga has a private marina, the perfect and safe place to enjoy time on the river.

Bush Survival

Bush Survival is a great activity with variations available for multiple age groups and locations. Learn valuable life skills on how to stay safe in the bush.

Minute to win it

Enjoy a fun camp night time activity in Minute to Win It. This fast paced activity involves 60 second challenges utilising household items. It is a sure thing to liven up any camp!

Sheep herding

Sheep herding is a fun new activity at Narnu Farm. Students will work as a team to herd sheep through a series of paddocks.

The Big Picture

Highlight through an artistic creative activity that we are all part of the bigger picture. Students paint canvases that come together to relay a meaningful message. Perfect to kick off the start to the Senior years at school.

Boat Tour

The Eco Boat Tour operates from Victor Harbor and showcases seals, dolphins, sea lions and bird life. It is an amazing experience and can also incorporate a dolphin survey upon request.

Leadership

The leadership program is a combination of a half day workshop and half day outdoor leadership challenge. Can also be multi days as required. Available throughout South Australia.

Workshops

Help your students build confidence, develop skills including resilience and discover the secret to positive thinking. Half day workshops that are designed to help students develop life skills.
