Camp Illawonga

Beyond the Classroom run Camp Illawonga, a school camp property near Swan Reach on the Murray River, approximately 2 hours from Adelaide, South Australia.

Set on an 1800 acre mallee scrub property with 800 metres of exclusive Murray River frontage, The camp has dorm accommodation, camping area, Riverbank retreat and a range of activities onsite.

The camp was originally built by Acromat in 1980's as a training centre for the 1984 Olympic Gymnastic Team to live and train at. It was later converted into school camp accommodation and renovated in 2023, when Beyond the Classroom took custodianship. The camp currently caters for 68 guests in dorm rooms plus more at multiple camping areas both in the scrub, and on the riverbank. There is a dining hall, air conditioned games area and a range of fun activities around the camp buildings for students to play and explore. 

All camp users get free use of the fire pit, basketball court, maze and projector for movies.

The property has a solo camping area set in the Mallee scrub, and a range of water activities including kayaking and paddle boats, plus a boat tour to the Punyelroo Caves.
